In The Hallway (free) 02:57
The hall piano's missing half its keys The guitar's missing a string and in the hallway you'll sing like an airborne hang-glider, falling and rising over Lancashire coastlines And on the warmth of the breeze You'd fall with the leaves and rise with the mountain waves But the guitar's missing a string And the piano needs tuning The hall carpet's frayed by the stairs My jacket's missing a button on its sleeve And we'll talk in the hallway like white water rafters First calm before rushing and crashing out High siding, as the riverbank blurs Knuckles gripped tight on our life jacket lapels But the carpet's frayed in the hall, around the edge of the stairs It's the sound of the summer, the sound of the spring, Windows rattle like soft tambourines The frame of the door creaks, the saddest violin The missing notes on the piano are far beyond tuning A five string guitar, and the carpet's worn thin There's no autumn or winter, just summer and spring The hall piano's missing half its keys The guitar's missing a string and in the hallway we'll dance like waltzers at the fairground Spinning clockwise, our hands crossed together Faded paintings, forgotten pop stars Grace the facades of the old theme park rides As the accordion plays we'll dance in the hallway

Coastal Blue 03:34
I went rose gold blonde for a summer in the distant past I wore salsa red to a wedding and clashed with the flowers And as the sunset falls in the fading light I'll be lost on the railway lines Working overtime On another song 'til my train comes past again I painted my walls Princeton orange until the council came and saw it I sprayed my guitar olive black and joined a local metal outfit And as the carriages disappear from sight I'll be lost on the railway lines Working overnight On another song for the sunrise I've felt woodland green ever since I can remember I've felt coastal blue, midnight blue, dolphin blue and all the blues I've felt R15 G20 and B196 I've felt Pantone 655 and that's as blue as I can get And as the city wakes to the morning light I'll be painting outside the lines Working 5 to 9 On another song for the sunrise I've been lost navigating from one mistake to the next I went dizzy figureskating around and around

Say It First 04:26
It's only close when there's paperback airport exclusives at a standard price And bicycles come out of the garage with punctured tyres, and cracked tape round the handlebars It only works with a white box beside it Paste words on a page, let the curators describe it It's only close when the forecasters broadcast from rooftop gardens It only clicks if you sing it so quietly it hurts And it's only summer if you say it first It's only near when the circle line is warm to the touch on the handrails and arm rests And next door's cat reclines in the sunshine as passers-by, tell her stories of Broken hearts, forgotten love, a lost romance, and the summers when nothing went to plan It only clicks if you sing it so quietly it hurts And it's only summer if you say it first Under August skies, read my eyes like an open book

Chaffinches 03:02
I lost my voice when the clocks went back It returned in early April It took a while for me to notice and my handwriting got careless Now Saturday nights come in second place To counting back the days We're falling, like a small child on an ice rink We're crashing like chaffinches against a window pane We'd run through midnight streets and the avenues singing harmonies Lost songs, lost memories Those old cassettes nearly finished me I lost myself to a melody It was old but ran with quick steps And as I paused for breath, it tapped my right shoulder and ran to the left Now Saturday nights are a tape cassette Running backwards through the decks We're falling, like kites when the wind stops Shaking like caravans balancing on brick We'd run through midnight streets and the avenues singing harmonies Lost songs, lost sunshine Count me in and let's sing it again

The Hills 03:21
Caught out in a violent storm The case on the roof rack, soaked through with rain Blood red skies, an ominous cloud We'll be gone until Christmas, may never return And we'll run for the hills Run for the sake of it Run for the precedent Run for the hills One by one the radio stations Fade into white noise and lose all reception Breathing fast and our hearts start to quicken The last of the city in our peripheral vision We'll run for the hills Run for the sake of it Run for the precedent Run for the hills

Light Clouds 00:43

I missed the view across the Pennines But caught the sun on one side of my face through the window facing west Where memories twist like an ampersand Fade like the stamp from a club night on the back of my hand Just came in from the south side of town For 24 hours of summer And stayed for the second act 365 days of summer I missed the last song of the encore Then saw the singer sell t-shirts outside and catch the bus home alone Where melodies twist like chimney smoke Fade like the taste of cheap wine, drunk alfresco 'til the sun comes up Until the sun comes up I just came in from the south side of town For 24 hours of summer And stayed for a flick of your hair 365 days of summer Hang on, I can’t quite feel the sunset Hang on, I don’t believe there’s a north or south side of town Hang on, I can’t quite hear the melody from the noise Hang on, I can’t quite tell if it’s summer anymore

I saw a leaf falling in summer A snowflake land in the first week of June The bikes wait in the garages The horses stayed in their stables and slept As the candles burned, pages turned, a storm rattled through the attic windows I saw a leaf falling in summer Icicles on the patio doors Rowing boats in a frozen lake An ice cream van close its windows and leave As your eyes caught mine, the windchimes calmed, the sunlight flickered through the bus stop shelters And of all of the stories we heard The brightest ones were the furthest away

I learned the ropes down in Iowa Skated on a frozen lake by a ski resort in Jackson, New Hampshire I hit the red rocks in Nevada Struggled around golf courses on the beachfronts down in South Carolina Just place a cross in the corner of this paper If only it was that complicated I trailed in the polls across Arkansas I fell away from the pelaton by the time my bus reached Richmond, Virginia I lost the crowds in (Vermont and) Colorado I lost my way in Tennessee and my sanity by the time I got to Georgia Please throw some notes in the buckets by the stage I'm counting on each dollar and cent Until the next state Close my eyes and fall away Look out Minnesota Come on Oklahoma Find the best in me I'm stockpiling air miles Send my clothes to the Novotel Look out Massachusetts Texas, Alabama Find the best in me Just place a cross in the corner of this paper If only it was that complicated Until the next state Close my eyes and fall away Look out Louisiana Oh come on Nebraska Find the best in me I'm stockpiling air miles Send my clothes to the Novotel Look out Mississippi Oh come on Michigan Find the best in me Close my eyes and fall away

Dancing 03:45
Some box step with a forward-side-together and a backward-side to where they started Others dosado in perfect tiny circles with their eyes fixed to the wall But do you ever find that your feet stop when the world is dancing around you? Hands by your side Your heart stops when the world is dancing around you Caught in the tide I’ll close my eyes and cling to the sides And the second hand rotates in slow motion Hours fade into decades of spins and dips As the world keeps dancing obliviously And the dancehall lights disorientate The music rises and falls and I’m obsolete Seldom swayed by the kick of a beat, a chiming guitar The melodies swoon and the harmonies soar I’m the only one who’s static on the dancefloor
